Design Technology

"Technology, like art, is a soaring exercise of the Human Imagination."

Design and Technology is one of the things that sets us apart as humans. Not only are we able to use tools, but we look at these tools, imagine how we can improve them, and then make ourselves better ones.

At Lime Tree, D&T follows these steps. First we evaluate an existing product, then we learn a skill that will allow us to build our own. When we have built our own product, we then evaluate it again, to see how we have improved it, and if there is anything we would do differently next time. In this way children are learning to become capable, skilled inventors: The designers and innovators of tomorrow.

Nursery

In Nursery, children will explore different materials freely in order to develop their ideas about how to use them and what to make. Children begin to learn how to join materials together (e.g sticking with glue or sellotape) and use these to express their ideas creatively.
