Geography
At Lime Tree School, we believe that Geography provides children awareness of the world around them. From EYFS to Year 6, children will gain Physical Geography knowledge, such as countries, continents, climates & biomes. Through Geography, children will learn about a variety of ecological issues, such as climate change, population, fair trade and travel. Children will make progress at mastering mapping skills; using compass points and grid references. During stand-alone lessons, children will all the while be applying skills taught in core curriculum subjects, linking Geography to all areas of the curriculum. Year groups find numerous cross curricular opportunities, to embed Geography in more ways than one. We feel it is important for children to have a grasp of the culture they are surrounded by in Britain and the world around them. Their knowledge of famous explorers and innovative mathematicians will grow and deepen, giving children the opportunity to connect with the lives of those before them.
Along with the knowledge and skills, pupils will become self-managing, reflective resilient, collaborative learners, who are able to be successful in the wider community.
During the school year, all year groups have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork around Surbiton. They will develop knowledge of the local area by looking at different maps and further understanding environmental issues in the local area. This is an exciting time for all students, who engage positively within the school and the wider community.
