PE & Sports Premium Funding
We are a Platinum Sports Mark School
In summer 2024, Lime Tree Primary was awarded the Platinum School Games Mark. This is a recognition of the range of sports and activities we do at this school, the large numbers of children who participate in sport and the strong links we have developed with local sports clubs.
What is the PE and Sports Premium?
The Education Funding Agency provides additional funding to each primary school to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport. This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.
Purpose of Funding
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding might include:
Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers when teaching PE
Supporting and engaging the least active children through new or additional clubs
Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport
Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport
Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in School Games
Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport
Providing places for pupils on after school sports clubs and holiday clubs
How much funding do we receive?
Funding for schools is based on the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 4 and 11), recorded in the annual schools’ census.

Skipping Workshops
As part of our healthy body ethos, children from Reception to Year 6 take part in a skipping workshop every half term, where they learn a new skipping skill. We celebrate the success of the children at the end of each academic year with a skipping assembly in the playground demonstrating excellent talents across each year group.
Providing places for pupils in after school clubs
Our school offers a wide range of before and after school clubs, accessed by children throughout the school. These clubs are provided by members of our staff alongside other commercially-run clubs provided by outside specialists. The Sports Funding Grant will continue to be used to fund places for children to engage in physical activity throughout the school and promote life-long healthy attitudes. This has helped increase physical activity participation levels.
Equipment
Adequate equipment is essential for the teaching of the PE curriculum and extra-curricular clubs to be delivered effectively. The school will replace and add equipment where necessary.
Supply cover to allow the release of PE co-ordinator
Supply cover teachers have allowed the PE co-ordinator to be released in order to plan, upskill through continued professional development courses and implement actions across the school. This also covers costs to release staff to accompany children to events.
Lunchtime activities
Our lunchtime coaches run sporting activities such as hula hoop, racket games, ball games.
Our PE teacher runs PE lessons/activities during the children's lunch break.
Sports Day
Within the academic year the school organises and runs a sport day for Reception to Year 6, held at Kingsmeadow Sports Stadium, Kingston. The children have access to a variety of track and field events. Funding is spent on hiring the facility alongside transport to and from the facility. Sports day develops a sense of friendliness among the children and develops their team spirit. It helps children to develop mental and physical toughness.
Tournaments and Kingston School Sports Partnership (KSSP)
The Kingston School Sports Partnership (KSSP) provides access to competitions in which pupils can compete against other schools within the borough. We have increased the number of competitions, the school has entered and therefore increased the number of children who have accessed these events. In addition, the funding has been spent to allow staff to support children, and the cost of travelling to and from the events.
Swimming Lessons
The school's aim is for all children, by the time they reach Year 6, to swim competently and proficiently over a distance of 25 metres, and to be able to use a range of strokes in order for them to be safe in the water.
