Assessment
At Lime Tree, effective personalised learning and teaching is driven by accurate use of assessment. Children are assessed on an ongoing basis against the programme of study set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage and within the National Curriculum. Children take an active role in assessing their own and each other’s learning as they progress through the school.
The following principles underpin our approach to assessment:
- Assessment is at the heart of teaching and learning
Assessment provides evidence to guide teaching and learning.
Assessment provides the opportunity for pupils to demonstrate and review their progress
- Assessment is fair
Assessment is inclusive of all abilities.
- Assessment is honest
Assessment outcomes are conveyed in an open, honest and transparent way to assist pupils with their learning.
Assessment judgements are moderated to ensure their accuracy.
- Assessment is ambitious
Assessment places achievement in context against national standards.
Assessment is used to set high expectations for all learners.
- Assessment is appropriate
Assessment should draw upon a wide range of evidence to provide a complete picture of a child’s achievements.
Record keeping for assessment informs future learning.
- Assessment is consistent
Judgements are formed in line with the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
The results of assessment are easy to understand by all stakeholders.
- Assessment is meaningful
Assessment highlights the next steps in children’s learning.
Parents are able to support their child to make progress.
Assessment informs planning so that each child moves on regardless of their starting point.
