Grammar and Punctuation

At Lime Tree Primary, we follow the 'Little Wandle- Letters and Sounds Revised' programme to ensure clear progression in phonics from the Early Years through Key Stage 1. This support is continued into KS2 as required based on individual development. 

Reading and communication at Lime Tree are taught through high-quality texts, regular reading practice, and rich oracy opportunities. Children:

• Explore a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.

• Daily reading to, with and by children in all year groups. 

• Build vocabulary through  total communication strategies, helping children understand and use new words confidently.

• Listen to texts read aloud and discuss ideas to build comprehension and deepen understanding.

• Use habits of discussion with clear roles to learn to express ideas clearly and listen to others.

• Read everyday labels, captions, notices, and signs to make connections with the real world.

• Develop independence and reflect on their reading preferences, building a lifelong love of books.

• Learn higher-order reading skills to locate information, make connections and explore texts in depth.
