Writing

At Lime Tree, our intentions are for all children to become passionate, confident and independent writers by the end of Key Stage 2. We pride ourselves in encouraging children to write for enjoyment and aim to expose them to high-level vocabulary to enhance their understanding. We encourage learners to use these words in their writing.

Children have wide opportunities to engage in creative writing, developing their skill and thinking. Lime Tree Primary ensures children have a competent grasp of cursive handwriting. The children explore writing structure, features of different text types, genres and writing for a purpose. Successful writers edit and redraft their work where necessary enabling them to reflect on their composition.

At Lime Tree we use Letter-join to support the teaching of handwriting.

This website has interactive features that parents can also use to encourage their children with handwriting at home. It allows children to practice pre-selected letters and the font style used in school and also helps to teach patterns in letter forms and words that can be traced on the screen.
